story telling technique "Legend of Sleepy Hollow"

This story at first didn't grab my attention, but as we read it in class it actually seems very interesting. it seems mysterious, as if a document was just found and we are trying to figure out where it came from. This technique is usually used in stories that like to give you a background and keep you in suspense or thinking so that you can keep reading the story.
