Vocabulary


Intercede: The act to interpose in behalf or someone in difficulty or trouble, as by pleading or petition.
I interceded in the game because my friend needed help.

Hackneyed: Made common place or true; stale, banal.


Approbation: Approval, commendation.
I needed approbation to construct a new house.

Innuendo: An indirect intimation about a person or thing, especially of a disparaging or a derogatory nature.
The innuendo made her realize that her shirt was stained.

Coalition:  A combination or alliance, especially a temporary one between persons, factions, states, etc.
The coalition of the two metals made a fine boat.

Elicit: To draw or bring out or forth; educe; evoke.
We elicit the drawing by putting a frame on it.

Hiatus: A break or interruption in the continuity of a work, series, action, etc.
The hiatus made us finishe the project ten hours later.

Assuage: to make milder or less severe; relieve; ease; mitigate.
My cough was assuaged after I drank some medicine.

Decadence: The act or process of falling into an inferior condition or state; deterioration; decay
The business sells went into a decadence after the depression.

Expostulate: to reason earnestly with someone against something that person intends to do or has done; remonstrate.
I expostulated with my friend because I didn't like her behavior.

Meritorious: Deserving praise, reward, esteem
She was meritorious because of her good grades.

Unctuous: Having an oily or soapy feel.
Petulant:  Moved to or showing sudden, impatient irritation, especially over some trifling annoyance.
Provincial: Having or showing the manners, viewpoints, etc.
Transcend: to rise above or go beyond; overpass; exceed
Lurid: gruesome; horrible; revolting
Prerogative:  An exclusive right, privilege, etc., exercised by virtue of rank, office, or the like
Umbrage: Offense; annoyance; displeasure.
Jaded:  Worn out or wearied, as by overwork or overuse.
Simulate: To create a simulation, likeness, or model of (a situation, system, or the like)
